From Sad to Satisfied!
One of the most intriguing events in the period between the Resurrection and Ascension of Christ took place on Resurrection Day. Just about every preacher would love to have been there, or at least been a fly on the wall and overhear the conversation. It [...]
Wait! There’s More
In the 40 days between the resurrection and ascension of Christ, there are records of many witnesses to the facts. In our last newsletter I wrote of the necessity of the resurrection and how the early church made it the center of their preaching. Let's [...]
The Big “If”
Both the historical record of the early church in Acts and the letters of Paul place the emphasis from Easter on the Resurrection of Christ. They do mention the death of Jesus on the cross and his burial but we as Christian believers are to [...]
He Delights in Me
A close friend of mine shared this phrase recently. It is based on Psalm 18:19 (ESV), "He brought me out into a broad place; he rescued me, because he delighted in me." My friend wrote: "I read this psalm and fell in love again. I [...]
Good News About God
The apostle Paul, in recounting his ministry to the Christians of his day, said, "I have fully preached the gospel of Christ" (Romans 15:19). I believe that on this website and in my books and spoken ministry I have shared more than you need to [...]
The Grasshopper Philosophy
Self-image psychology has become popularized in recent years under a variety of names. A simplification of the principle might go like this: "You are what you think you are." It is not at all surprising to find that God's Word gives much more information [...]
The Old Has Gone, Almost
I write this in the first few days of a New Year on the calendar. We know that the old year has gone forever, just like yesterday. In fact, are you sure it is a new year yet? In Western cultures its start has been [...]
Don’t Wait Until Sunday!
I recall the basics of an instance that occurred in our second pastorate in Western Australia. An English couple had started attending the church with their children. One Sunday morning before the service started, I was astonished to see the husband almost carrying in his wife and setting her down on the pew in the back row. It was obvious something was amiss, so I went up to them to find out if I could help. It seemed that she had fallen somehow in the home and was in much pain and unable to use her legs (at least that's how I remember it). I enquired when this had happened and was told it was on Thursday. So I said I would come down to the pew during the communion service and pray for her healing, which I did, and God healed her on the spot to much rejoicing.
The Promise of Christmas
God's first promise of the Incarnation is given in His conversation with Satan just after man's sin of High Treason. Genesis 3:15, "And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed: he shall bruise thy head, and [...]
A Balanced New Creation
One of the great truths I was guided to share with the campers at the Lake Beauty Bible Camp, Minnesota, in 1978, was the need to have a balanced view of new creation realities. Biblical truths can be either in contrast or in correspondence with [...]
