“I am the rose of Sharon, and the lily of the valleys” (Song of Solomon 2:1).
Christ is often likened unto the rose of Sharon and the lily of the valleys — common flowers of the field. This expresses His presence with us in our common problems and the fact that He is easily accessible to each of us.
When faced with an overwhelming problem you may be tempted to ask, “Where is God when I need Him?” The answer is, “Right in the middle of your problem.” Jesus and your needs belong together.
I learned this when I was dying with tuberculosis. My father, who was distressed because he knew I was not saved, pleaded with me, “Oral, get saved so you can go to heaven.” But he couldn’t reach me with that. I didn’t want to go to heaven. Not then anyway. Like every other 17-year-old, I wanted to live.
But when my sister jewel came in and said, “Oral, God is going to heal you,” that turned me on to God! Nobody had said that before. It was news to me that God wasn’t way off in heaven … that He was right there in my room … suffering with me … feeling my pain … understanding my despair. That’s when I gave my life to Jesus and He healed my body.

Yes, Margaret, our story runs parallel with yours. We watch DVDs of all the good old gospel songs and really get blessed by them still. In addition, of course, as ministers we can quote hundreds of them as they are so firmly rooted in our minds. Thanks for your comment!
