It only takes one scripture verse to change your life forever. Have you found your verse yet? Are you really looking? Martin Luther, in around 1513-14, found his verse, Romans 1:17, “The just shall live by faith”, and started the Reformation.
After twelve years of ministry Oral Roberts was ready to change his vocation. Then he discovered that churchianity was not the answer but “life… more abundantly” (John 10:10). He read through the Gospels and the book of Acts several times, and one day in his devotions he discovered III John 2, “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.” That verse changed his life and Oral Roberts, through his tent crusades from 1948 to 1968 and his weekly nationwide television program, brought healing the sick out of the confines of the despised Pentecostal churches and into the mainline spiritual life.
My good friend Peter Allard, from Life Bible College days, discovered II Corinthians 5:21, “For He has made Him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him.” The next day and thereafter, whoever he met, Peter boldly asserted with great enthusiasm, “I am the righteousness of God in Christ.” He had found his verse, and evangelized for God and planted churches.
Ephesians 1:3 became a pivotal verse in my life before I even went to Bible College. “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Who blesses us with all spiritual blessing in heavenly places in Christ.” What a powerful verse. But even that was eclipsed by the deep mine of truth in II Corinthians 5:17, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” In the past decade or so, that verse has changed my ministry.
So let me say again, it only takes one verse to change your life forever. Read the Word, meditate on the Word, and you will find God’s verse for you.
It took 30 years of severe anorexia, which doctors said I would not survive, when God kept His promise in Psalm 103 to heal all our diseases, to me. I am so thankful that God kept His Word to me. Now I love God for who He is and not simply for what He can do for me.
